I Bike, I Vote 2020

Bikes bring us together, uniting us in a common mission: to build a Bicycle Friendly America for everyone. For the League, much of how we shape that future takes place in Washington, DC, on Capitol Hill and in the federal government. In our efforts to make biking better, the League is successful because our support spans the political spectrum—making our work bike-partisan—and supporters like you take action by contacting your Representative or Senators and speaking up for people who bike. 

Soon, you’ll also have the opportunity to say, “I Bike, I Vote!” 

The more that people who bike are also people who vote, the more power we will collectively have to make our streets safer for everyone. 

As the election approaches, the League will be sharing a series of blog posts with important information about voting. Today, on National Voter Registration Day (and Bike There Day!), we’ll start today by making sure you are registered to vote, and know how to request a mail-in ballot (if you choose to vote by mail).  

1. Prepare for voting 

• Are you registered? Check your registration or get registered to vote 
• Know the deadlines: Many states have deadlines requiring you to register up to a month before the election. Check the deadlines in your state and learn about other state-specific information 

If you or someone you know has a disability, you have the right to:

• Vote privately and independently
• Have an accessible polling place with voting machines for voters with disabilities
• This fact sheet covers how to ensure you can vote fairly

2. How to vote by mail

• Rules vary by state. Find your state policies.
• You can request an absentee or mail-in ballot by following instructions on either Vote.org or USA.gov

3. I’m ready to vote, and want to volunteer in my community

• Great! Consider signing up to be a poll worker. Most poll workers are older, and many are not willing or able to work this year because of Coronavirus.
• If you are interested in learning more about being a poll worker, here’s a factsheet with some basic information and who to contact in your state or county.

4. Cast your ballot for BIKES
