Summer Rides We Love

In the League’s Summer 2022 magazine we shared a few rides we’re excited to see hundreds of bike friends across the country take part in. These summer rides encapsulate so much of what we love about riding: challenging ourselves, long days in the saddle, and communities coming together around our shared love of biking. Enjoy — and mark your calendars for next year!

Shorefire Century

Middletown, DE – August 6; Hosted by White Clay Bicycle Club

Ride beautiful, scenic routes (35, 65, and 100 miles) taking you through flat to gently rolling farmland in central Delaware as the route follows lesser-traveled roads from Middletown to Clayton, Hartly, and points south and back. All routes will be marked with route arrows and have SAG support until 5 pm ET. There are rest stops along the routes at regular intervals, five on the Century route!

Because of the flat, gently rolling terrain that the route follows, this event has become a “right-of-passage” for many cyclists as they take on the challenge of their “First Century Ride“.

Discover Hudson Valley Ride

Poughkeepsie, NY – June 26; Hosted by Bike New York

Centered around the Walkway Over the Hudson, the world’s longest footbridge, this ride is all about discovery. For some, that means taking one of the shorter routes and simply enjoying the gorgeous scenery of Ulster and Dutchess counties. For others, it means discovering what you’re capable of — with more than 5,900 feet of climbing the 100-mile route is a century worth bragging about.

Le Tour de Shore

Chicago, IL to New Buffalo, MI – June 17-18; Hosted by the Eastern Shore of Virginia Chamber of Commerce

This classic two-day, 100-mile touring event from Chicago, IL, to New Buffalo, MI, on the beautiful shore of Lake Michigan benefits Arts for Kids at Maywood Fine Arts. Choose from single or two-day riding options, with hotel or camping accommodations.

Kaiser Permanente Seattle to Portland Presented by Alaska Airlines

Seattle, WA to Portland, OR – July 16-17; Hosted by Cascade Bicycle Club

Go all out with this 200+ mile ride through western Washington. Heading south from Seattle, Washington, and ending in Portland, Oregon, the STP is a thrilling double-century ride through urban and rural settings. The good news is riders can choose between completing this ride in one or two days.

The Wild West Ride

Kansas City, KS – June 26; Hosted by Cycling Kansas City

Starting and ending at the Due West Ranch, the Wild West Ride features something for everyone: gravel routes, four road courses from 25 to 100 miles, and even a family ride. Giddy up!
