National Bike Challenge: We’re Halfway There!
What a difference a year makes.
In 2012, more than 30,000 riders pedaled more than 10 million miles as part of the National Bike Challenge. We were so inspired by the success that we decided to ramp up our goals for the 2013 Challenge: 50,000 riders, pedaling 20 million miles.
Thanks to YOU, we’ve already blazed past our 2012 ridership number and are well on our way to achieving both of our 2013 goals — and we’re only halfway through the Challenge period. We’ve still got more than two months to build community, share success stories and Challenge more folks to ride before the competition closes on September 30!
Here’s a snapshot of our progress, as of July 15, by the numbers:
- 32,562 riders
- 2,104 teams
- 9,247,100 miles – that’s more than 371 trips around Earth!
- 214,068,711 calories – that’s 61,162 pounds!
- 3,423,899 pounds of CO2 saved
- $1,087,085 saved
Over the past several weeks, we’ve heard many great stories about our Challengers and their bicycling motivations and successes. Our first-ever “Challenge Profile”, featuring Challenger Michael Schwaid (AKA “Michael on a Bicycle”), showcased his accomplishment of 20,000 lifetime cyclo-commuting miles. Some of us ride for fun; some for fitness; some to save money – but we’re all out there on our bikes, and that’s what the National Bike Challenge is all about.
We’re on pace to hit 19 million miles by the end of the Challenge period… help us hit that 20 million MILE-stone and encourage your friends, family and colleagues to sign up for the National Bike Challenge! There’s still plenty of time!
