Celebrating the ADA: Rami and Yousef
The Americans with Disabilities Act turns 23 today. To commemorate the anniversary of this groundbreaking law, we’re highlighting the stories of those who have turned to bicycling to help propel them forward in their communities — this is the last post in the series. This post comes from Laura Johnson, a Programs to Educate All Cyclists summer staff member. This is Rami and Yousef’s story.
Rami and Yousef are brothers and it is their second year in the program.
Rami learned to ride a two wheel last year on the second day of program!
He is now working hard on community skills to prepare him to go out in the neighborhood. Yousef worked hard on two wheel drills last year and the first half of this year. And just recently he started riding! So exciting! He already has the power start mastered and is working on building up his endurance. Soon he and his brother will be able to ride in the community together.
They are both such a joy to work with!
Focusing on the continued importance of the ADA, the League is also supporting the National Disability Rights Network campaign to push Amtrak to meet ADA guidelines to create safe and complete stations. Learn more about the campaign, and please consider joining us here.
