Bike Clubs and Organizations From Around the Country Oppose the AV START Act

Thanks to all 150 League member organizations from all 50 states, and many national partners for joining us in opposing the AV START Act. Together we sent this attached letter to Senators asking them to oppose the AV START Act which regulates autonomous vehicles, unless or until the regulation includes stronger safety provisions for bicyclists and pedestrians. What the League is fighting for:

The League believes that autonomous driving technology has the potential to make our roads safer for everyone, but only if that technology is tested and designed to ‘see’ and respond to bicyclists, pedestrians, people in wheelchairs and using mobility devices and others. The League believes that Congress can incentivize better testing and design through regulations. We look forward to working with Congress to create a regulatory environment that ensures safety for all road users.

How you can weigh in:

The Senate is planning to take on this issue in November or December. Look for an action alert from the League for you to reach out to your Senator and ask them to oppose AV START Act. You can also weigh in on your own. Consider calling your Senator’s office and ask them to oppose the AV START Act until it improves protection for bicyclists and pedestrians.
