April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month
Combatting distracted driving is important to the League of American Bicyclists and to our members. Since the inception of the Bicycle Friendly State program in 2008 we have surveyed states on their distracted driving laws with a goal of having more states where cell phone use and handheld device use is banned while driving. This commitment has been reinforced by our recent policy surveys to League members, bicycling and walking advocacy organizations, and members of the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals where concerns about distracted driving emerged as a key theme.
During Distracted Driving Awareness Month, the League would like your support to continue our work to create strong laws and strong enforcement that is directed at distracted driving. Please donate to support our work, including:
- Bicycle Friendly State rankings that assess and judge distracted driving laws.
- Federal advocacy to create and fund targeted enforcement programs, including the National Priority Safety program grants for distracted driving and non-motorized safety.
- Action Alerts, in cooperation with local advocacy groups, to change state laws.
- Resources on state laws related to biking, including distracted driving laws.
