Vote Now for League Board Candidates
Are you ready to vote? The election for new members of the Board of Directors of the League of American Bicyclists is now open. If you are a League member, you will have received an email from [email protected] on November 1 with the subject line, “Vote Now! Bike League Board of Directors Elections.” I encourage all members to read the bios of the candidates, and cast your vote for 6 candidates. Additional candidate-supplied information is available at https://bikeleague.org/candidates. The election for League Board members will close on November 15. Vote now so you do not miss the deadline.
As members, we know for 136 years the League has been at the forefront of the movement to make bicycling — and all active transportation — safe and easy for everyone of all ages and abilities wherever they live. Our mission is to lead the movement to create a Bicycle Friendly America for everyone.
The candidates seeking to be elected to the League Board of Directors represent the best of our members and they deserve your consideration. Each candidate is willing to volunteer her or his time to serve as the governing body with the ultimate legal responsibility for the League of American Bicyclists. Board members accept responsibility for the mission, determine the strategic vision, set policy, approve budgets and look to the long-term financial future of the organization. We are very proud to be a “100% Giving Board.”
The League needs you — and every member — to be active and engaged with your local and state advocacy organizations and with bike clubs and groups promoting the use of bicycles. We also need you to support the League, which lobbies at the national level, promotes the highly-coveted Bicycle Friendly America program, offers the nationally recognized bike education curriculum and, each year, holds the exciting National Bike Summit, to mention some of the most visible activities.
We have learned that together we can make riding a bicycle an accepted, safe and attractive means of transportation. And we also know it takes hard work, committed dedication and broad collaboration with strategic partners.
During this election season, I encourage you to vote for members who will represent you and will work thoughtfully and vigorously to keep the League strong as it moves into the next 136 years of its glorious history. Together, we can continue to make a difference and build a Bicycle Friendly America for everyone, in every community.
Vote for new members of the League of American Bicyclists. You can make a difference. Your vote matters!
Karen Jenkins is Chair of the League of American Bicyclists Board of Directors.
