National Bike Summit Registration is Open
Join us in Washington, DC, for the 2017 National Bike Summit, where advocates, bike industry leaders, local decision makers, engineers and planners will convene to discuss, learn, experience and advocate for better bicycling. The event will be held March 6–9, 2017, at the Renaissance Washington, DC, Hotel. Registration is now open!
This inspirational event builds our movement for 2017 and beyond. Focus will be on regional planning, national and local messaging and the road map of our work together in advancing the bicycling movement. You’ll be connected with networking opportunities, hear keynote addresses from top government officials, attend workshops highlighting innovative advocacy ideas and take part in an organized Lobby Day to bring our pro-bicycling message to our elected officials on Capitol Hill.
By being a member of — or joining — the League, you will receive discounted rates. The early bird member rate is $475, and the non-member early bird rate is $589. If you’re not yet a member, you can join at the same time you register for the Summit. Your ticket includes all breakout sessions & mobile workshops (attendees must sign-up separately for mobile workshops, which will be available early December); awards banquet; breakfast and snacks; state meetings; and Lobby Day activities including breakfast and lunch.
To make the Summit more accessible to all, we will offer double last year’s number of equity scholarships. You can donate to the Summit scholarship program in the registration form.
Another way to support the scholarship program is by purchasing a VIP ticket. $100 of the ticket price goes toward the scholarship fund. The VIP ticket also includes an exclusive tour of the Smithsonian Archive to view the original League of American Wheelmen’s Good Roads Movement Petition — a collection of over 150,000 signatures on a large wheel that was literally rolled onto the floor of Congress in 1892!
Among the highlights of the 2016 Summit were the Mobile Workshops. This year, the National Public Radio and World Bank tours are back by popular demand. Additional Mobile Workshops will visit new innovative facilities in DC, hearing directly from the District Department of Transportation, Washington Area Bicyclist Association, and the DowntownDC Business Improvement District, to see how they worked together to make these improvements happen.
We’ll also take a behind-the-scenes look at Amtrak, including a dialogue with Amtrak officials on how to improve service for bicyclists. There will be a bike tour of the University of Maryland, College Park campus with college administrators. You can also look forward to other guided bike tours of DC.
For bike club leaders, American Specialty insurance representatives will be on hand to answer your questions about insurance for your club and for your rides. We will celebrate the great work that League Cycling Instructors (LCIs) are doing with a reception to which all LCIs are invited.
As part of the League’s new Active Transportation Leadership Institute, the Summit will also feature trainings for local and state advocates. We look forward to sharing more about the Leadership Institute at the Summit and to building it with your guidance.
Register now to take advantage of the early bird rates, now through December 31. Stay close to all the action by reserving a room at the Summit hotel. You will be entered to win a free night’s stay at the Renaissance Hotel if you book your room for the Summit there before January 31, 2017.
