Where the Ride Takes Us: 450 Miles for Homeless Veterans
During Bike Month this year, we heard from people and organizations who are using bicycles as tools for personal empowerment, social justice and community development. Taking this “Where the Ride Takes Us” web series a step further, we’re following up with a group of bicyclists in West Virginia who are riding to Washington, D.C., to help raise money for homeless veterans.
They’ll go 450 miles over six days on a journey from Huntington, W. Va., to Washington, D.C.
The reason? Help fill the gaps in funding for the VA’s Homless Veterans Resource Center, which assists with helping veterans find medical care, transitional housing, legal issues and more. The center helps veterans in parts of West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky.

The Tri-State Cyclists for Veterans will ride from June 22 – 27, and will stay at churches along the way.
The nine riders this year, ranging in age from 36 to 72, have already helped raise $20,000. “They are a shining example of how cycling can be a lifelong passion,” said Bryan Chambers, one of the riders.
