Victory- No Votes on Carter and Yoho Amendments!

This week, the House of Representatives is debating and voting on over 125 amendments to the Surface Transportation Reauthorization and Reform Act (STRRA). None of them threatens the biking and walking funding preserved in the bill, after two hostile amendments failed to make it to the floor for a vote.

Representative Buddy Carter of Georgia had introduced an amendment that would have undermined the agreement carefully crafted in the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure between Chairman Shuster (R-PA) and Ranking Member DeFazio (D-OR). Their agreement maintains the competitive nature and the local control of funds that made the transportation alternatives program a success. The Yoho amendment would have struck eligibility for non-motorized projects from the Recreational Trails program. Neither amendment made it past the Rules Committee in the House of Representatives.

Thank you to the work of everyone who weighed in to their Congressional Representative against the Carter and Yoho amendments.  In the end the amendments did not even make it to the floor for a vote. Sometimes the hardest work results in nothing happening- and that can be the biggest victory of all.
