The U.S. Department of Transportation wants to hear from you!
Update: The deadline to comment has been extended to September 8, 2025 at 11:59pm ET!
Every five years, the transportation reauthorization bill lays out the ensuing half-decade of transportation funding and priorities. Currently, that bill is the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which is set to expire on September 30, 2026.
With just over a year left in that bill, Congress and the Trump Administration are looking to shape the next transportation bill, one that will determine funding and policy through 2031. We need your help ensuring the next bill continues bicycle-friendly policies and funding programs.
Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy is soliciting citizen feedback on “any aspect of Federal transportation infrastructure policy to inform the surface transportation reauthorization process.” Every American is invited to share their thoughts on what the U.S. Department of Transportation should make a federal priority in the next bill.
Secretary Duffy believes that Congress and the U.S. DOT should NOT be funding bicycle infrastructure. At a 2025 economic forum he stated:
“I do think it’s a problem when we’re making massive investments in bike lanes at the expense of vehicles,” he added. “I do think you see more congestion when you add bike lanes and take away vehicle lanes. That’s a problem.”
Disagree? You have through August 20 to provide your own comments. Here’s how:
The League is submitting our own comments and we’d love for you to join us, both in echoing our priorities and in making your voice heard for safer streets and roads for everyone.
While we will offer guidance on what to write, we find the most positive responses from the U.S. DOT and Congress when they receive individualized messages. So if you have the capacity, please add your voice to our message.
