League Welcomes Confirmation of Anthony Foxx
With a vote of 100-0 in the Senate, Anthony Foxx won confirmation today as the next U.S. Secretary for the Department of Transportation.
We’ve been following the former Charlotte Mayor’s nomination process closely, and we’re excited to get to work with the new Secretary.
“We look forward to working with the new Secretary of Transportation, Anthony Foxx,” said Andy Clarke, League President, today. “His experience as an elected official in a major U.S. city will be invaluable as he tackles issues of safety, congestion, equity and access in communities across the country. He understands that transportation is not an end in itself but a means to creating workable, livable communites where trasnportation choices — including bicycling — are readily available to all.”
We’re appreciatve of the bike-friendly legacy left by outgoing Secretary Ray LaHood. Indeed, LaHood predicted in his final “On the Go” video blog that there is “no doubt” Foxx will continue his good record on bicycling and bicycling safety.
