Ready to Make Biking Better? Join the Detroit LCA Workshop this Fall!

Want to turn your passion for biking into real community change? This October 7–9, 2025, the League of American Bicyclists is bringing its League Cycling Advocacy Workshop to Detroit — a hands-on, three-day training designed to turn your passion into action. Whether you’re a seasoned bike advocate or if you’re just starting out, this workshop is an opportunity to build the essential skills, knowledge, and connections to help you make a real impact in your community.

What is an LCA Workshop?

A League Cycling Advocacy (LCA) Workshop is a hands-on, three-day training designed to empower individuals to become effective bike advocates. Through a combination of expert-led sessions, group activities, and real-world applications, you’ll learn how to:

  • Communicate and engage with policymakers and community leaders
  • Craft compelling narratives that inspire action
  • Understand the intricacies of policies and funding
  • Integrate equity and mobility justice in cycling initiatives
  • Learn how the history of organizing informs today’s bike advocacy — and how to organize effectively in your own community.

By the end of the three-day workshop, you’ll be certified as a League Cycling Advocate — a certification that can boost your resume, provide professional development, and give you confidence and credibility to drive positive change in your area. After the workshop concludes, you’ll continue to benefit from peer learning and best practices shared among our nationwide network of LCAs.

Why Detroit?

Detroit is a city on the move, with a vibrant and growing bike community. From the adaptive MoGo bike share program to the ambitious Joe Louis Greenway project, Detroit is leading the way in inclusive and innovative cycling infrastructure. Hosting the LCA Workshop here is an acknowledgement of the city’s commitment to building a more bike-friendly future for all. The workshop will be hosted at Wayne State University, which is certified as a Bronze-level Bicycle Friendly University.

What to Expect

The workshop will be held in person over three days (an evening, a full day, and a half day), featuring:

  • Group rides to explore Detroit’s best bike routes
  • Opportunities to network with fellow advocates
  • Interactive sessions with local and national experts, on topics ranging from the history of organizing to influencing your city budget and beyond
  • Practical exercises to apply what you’ve learned

Whether you’re launching a new bike advocacy initiative or enhancing an existing one, you’ll find value in the lessons shared and connections made during a League Cycling Advocacy workshop. Spaces are limited, so don’t miss out on this opportunity to amplify your impact.
