New League online learning portal offers free bike education lessons

The League has a new way to learn bike skills – learn.bikeleague.org. Our new online learning platform puts our Smart Cycling curriculum immediately in your hands for free and on your own time. This is a great place to build your knowledge base about bicycling whether you’re new to cycling or have been riding for years. There is something for every level of rider. The online curriculum parallels the Smart Cycling Manual, which can be easily ordered online if a user wants to have the curriculum in print.

Go online and follow the Smart Cycling curriculum as it builds on itself through Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced sections of bicycling education. There is a wide variety of methods to learn the material – videos, presentations, quizzes, worksheets, and more! No need to tackle it all at once, do as much as you have time to complete and come back to continue learning more. Each section is broken down into smaller topics, each about 2-3 minutes in length. From the ABC Quick Check, to riding at night, to understanding avoidance maneuvers, you’ll have access to it all in the Learning Center.

The Learning Center also hosts the Smart Cycling exam. Those interested in attending a League Cycling Instructor (LCI) seminar must first successfully complete the Smart Cycling exam and earn a certificate on the Learning Center. Candidates must then also pass the on-bike test with a current LCI.

Find an LCI in your area using our Connect Locally Map

While the Learning Center is a great place to learn more bicycling skill and to grow and test your knowledge, the best bicycle education occurs on a bike with an LCI. Log on to learn.bikeleague.org and enjoy the material but don’t forget to find your local LCI on our Connect Locally Map. Being on a bike is the best way to put your new knowledge to use, improve your bike handling skills, grow your confidence, and experience bike joy.

Most League members will be able to login directly to the site using the same login as the League member portal. If you are not a League member, you can still access the Learning Center for free: you will need to create an account and validate the account through email. Give it a try and let us know what you think!
