Since The Hub first opened about seven years ago, Facebook has continued to prioritize biking company-wide by opening its first full-service bike shop in a field office at its new South Lake Union digs in Seattle.
From a square marked “Bike Shop?” on Facebook’s architectural plans for a new campus, to Platinum-level Bicycle Friendly Business status, Facebook’s California Headquarters has come a long way with their bicycle resources.
Steering through rough terrain, Mixte is taking lead as one of three bike friendly business with gold designations in San Diego awarded by the League of American Bicyclists. Making something seem seamless in a car-first culture has been a hard pedal, but it’s not impossible with the right goal, direction and infrastructure.
In May, The Fuller Center for Housing was one of 114 new Bicycle Friendly Businesses announced by the League. Their cross-country fundraising ride, the Fuller Center Bicycle Adventure was among the many merits that earned this nonprofit the Silver BFB award.

A few weeks ago, we recognized 114 new and renewing Bicycle Friendly Businesses (BFBs). One of those businesses is Mitchell Auto Group in Simsbury, CT, the first auto dealer to achieve Gold BFB status.
The mental and physical health of employees improves when commuting by bicycle is made easy and accessible. Overall impact to the environment is improved by taking cars off the road for commuters.
The most positive outcome of our company’s support for bicycling has been a community of employees who encourage each other in their bicycling efforts resulting in an increase in people who bike to work and bike on our trail at lunch.
