#BikesUnite Round-up for May 22th

It’s been a whirlwind week of Bike Month and happy little reminders about how #BikesUnite. As always, I asked the League staff to be on the lookout for stories that inspired them, made them smile, or made them want to hop on a bike. As we head into the long weekend, it’s our hope that the sun shines down on you this weekend as you get outside on one-to-three wheels.

For Amelia, our Bicycle Friendly America program director, her highlight of the week was:

“Getting photo updates from (and living vicariously through) a previous BFA program intern, who is currently biking her way through various National Parks and Forests on her way to a summer job at Mt. Whitney in California.”

For Bill, our executive director, his highlights this week have been twofold:

Bike shops: Download a “While you Wait” flyer to display for customers

Bike commuters miss their commutes more than everyone else! It’s also great to see the line out the door and down the block at my local bike shop Spokes Etc. As much as I love giving weekend tips on derailleur adjustments on FaceTime, I’m glad to see the experts thriving.

For me, a highlight continues to be all the kids in my neighborhood riding new bikes around in endless circles! I was also blown away by this week’s Advocacy and Edcuation Award winners, who you can watch below:

For Ken, the League’s policy director, he enjoyed spotting a photo of himself on an official FHWA website

Again, have a great long weekend from all of us here at the League. For my part, I’m looking forward to a long ride and starting to build up … a gravel bike! The bike boom is real.
