Celebrating the ADA: Bradley Masters the Power Start
The Americans with Disabilities Act turns 23 this week, on July 26. To commemorate the anniversary of this groundbreaking law, we’re highlighting the stories of those who have turned to bicycling to help propel them forward in their communities, and we’ll be posting blogs every day this week. This post comes from Alyssa Bowling, a Programs to Educate All Cyclists site coordinator. This is Bradley’s story.
Way to use the power start, Bradley!
Brad has been a PEAC student for many years and came to us with the goal of being able to ride a two-wheel bike independently. Through lots of hard work and dedication over the past summers, he has mastered many steps along the way to this big goal.
This summer, Brad wanted to master the “power start” so he could start riding all by himself. We’ve been working very hard since the start of summer program and this week, all of Brad’s hard work paid off!
He was able to start the bike independently FIVE TIMES during our session and I think he even surprised himself! We’re so proud of Brad for his perseverance and we can’t wait to see what he will accomplish by the end of the summer!
Focusing on the continued importance of the ADA, the League is also supporting the National Disability Rights Network campaign to push Amtrak to meet ADA guidelines to create safe and complete stations. Learn more about the campaign, and please consider joining us here.
