Dan Langenkamp,
Bethesda, Maryland
Dan Langenkamp is a life-long cyclist and a Foreign Service Officer with the State Department. In August 2022, his wife, Sarah, was killed while bicycling home from their sons’ elementary school just weeks after their family had been evacuated to the United States from Ukraine.
Since Sarah’s death, Dan has campaigned for increased street street safety in Maryland and nationally, donating more than $300,000 to bicycle and street safety organizations, passing a law named after Sarah in Maryland, and advocating for a separate law in the U.S. Congress that would make it easier for States to use federal funds to build biking and walking infrastructure. He has also organized several Ride for Your Life bicycling events, bringing thousands of cyclists together for rides seeking legislative changes to enhance roadway safety. A specialist in media and public affairs who has worked on four continents, he is retiring from the State Department after his 22-year diplomatic career in September. He and his two boys live in Bethesda, Maryland.
