Washington, DC | Bronze Level

Engineering: D.C. is building bicycling momentum! This includes increased numbers of cyclists in the District; a mayor and administration interested in cycling and promoting alternatives to automobiles; and an active bicycle advocacy group, the Washington Area Bicyclist Association. D.C. has finished a $6 million New York Avenue portion of the Metropolitan Branch Trail and completed a nearly $500,000 Bicycle Master Plan. In the past two years, 125 new bike racks have been installed. In addition, the city has added 10 miles of signed bicycle routes, 11 new miles of bike lanes, two new bus/bike lanes, and completed portions of the Metropolitan Branch Trail.
