FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 14, 2006 The League of American Bicyclists Welcomes the Nomination of Mary Peters as DOT SecretaryWASHINGTON, DC, September 14, 2006 – The League of American Bicyclists today welcomed President Bush’s nomination of transportation policy veteran Mary Peters to serve as Department of Transportation (DOT) secretary. “I am pleased to see Mary Peters nominated to succeed Norman Mineta as Transportation Secretary,” said Executive Director Andy Clarke. “Having worked with her in the past, I know she shares former Secretary Mineta’s vision that bicycle and pedestrian facilities are an integral part of our nation’s transportation system for the 21st century, and that our national transportation system must meet the needs of all our customers, including bicyclists. I look forward to working with her to ensure that we develop and implement a national bicycling strategy to achieve these goals. The League of American Bicyclists promotes bicycling for fun, fitness and transportation, and works through advocacy and education for a bicycle-friendly America. The League represents the interests of America’s 57 million bicyclists, including its 300,000 members and affiliates. For more information or to support the League, visit www.bikeleague.org |
